📅 27 Jan 2013 in: etmooc

On a very wet, Australia day long weekend I'm hoping to explore some of the differences, similarities and connections between networked and connected learning. This is all part of my attempt to participate in #etmooc which is currently looking at "Connected Learning – Tools, Processes & Pedagogy". Networked learning is the term I'm most familiar with and it appears to have a longer history. I'm wondering where connected learning has come from, why and what does it offer as a concept?...more...

📅 24 Jan 2013 in: research, teaching

According to the Wordpress dashboard for this blog this is the 1000th published post (I have 100 odd drafts that I never finished or thought better of posting). Given I'm about to mark first year in a new job in a new institution in a new region, undergo my annual performance review and commence a new academic year, it would seem time to reflect and think about the future....more...

Late last year Nesta - a UK-based charity - released the report Decoding learning: The proof promise and potential of digital education. Nesta commissioned the London Knowledge Lab and the Learning Sciences Research Institute at the University of Nottingham to "analyse how technology has been used in the UK education systems and lessons from around the world. Uniquely, we wanted this to be set within a clear framework for better understanding the impact on learning experiences"....more...

E-portfolios have increasingly been seen as a good thing. A welcome innovation in assessment practices that show evidence of institutions improving their learning and teaching. At the same time, there's been an increasing question about whether a student's e-portfolio should be hosted on an institutionally owned system. Various questions arise, including...more...

📅 14 Jan 2013 in: etmooc

#etmooc has commenced. The flood of introductory emails flowing from the #etmooc Google+ community is a sure a sign as any. The questions begin. How effective are all these introductions? How will I engage with the course? Why am I engaging?...more...

In around two months a couple of hundred pre-service teachers will be wanting/required to start engaging with the course EDC3100, ICTs and Pedagogy. For the last 3 or 4 months I've been reading a bit and generally mulling over what I'll do and how far to go. Back in July I started off with this initial post. It's now (past) time to make some of this explicit, make some design decisions and implement it. This is the start. Littered through the following will be questions and reminders to myself for further consideration....more...

📅 08 Jan 2013 in: indicators, learninganalytics-elearning

The following is a summary and some reflection upon a CETIS report (Harmelen and Workman, 2012) titled Analytics for Learning and Teaching. One of the reasons for reading this is the current considerations around reworking and resubmitting a unsuccessful OLT application around learning analytics....more...

📅 01 Jan 2013 in: bim, bim2

While BIM 2.0 is largely working there remains a list of 30 open issues to be addressed. 19 of these are "future" issues. i.e. changes that would be really nice but aren't necessary for the immediate release of BIM 2.0. The following is the first part of working on the 11 that are of immediate interest....more...

📅 01 Jan 2013 in: bim, bim2

The following reports on the process to complete the backup/restore functionality for BIM 2.0. Backup is currently working. Time to add the ability to restore those backups. It draws on the process described in this documentation - "Restore 2.0 for developers". Which doesn't appear anywhere as detailed/sequential as the backup 2.0 documentation....more...
